The LISE IATE Workshop organized by the LISE team and Dieter Rummel from the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union (CdT) in Luxembourg was attended by terminologists from different EU institutions, i.e. the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union (CdT), the European Parliament (EP, TERM COORD) and the European Court of Auditors (ECA, Translation Directorate, Coordination Unit). After a general introduction to the project and to the tools, the participants worked with the three different tools ESTeam Cleanup, ESTeam Omeo and ESTeam Fillup, which contained a subset of the IATE data on social security. ESTeam Cleanup intends to automatize the process of eliminating formal errors like spelling mistakes or doublettes, thus supporting the revision process.
ESTeam Fillup can be used to automatically integrate one or more new languages on the basis of aligned translation memories. It therefore supports the process of term extraction and selection in the target language, thus speeding up the process of terminology elaboration, because the possible equivalents in the target language are already proposed by the tool. ESTeam Omeo helps reviewing the data to harmonise terminologies. During the workshop in particular ESTeam Cleanup proved to be every terminologist’s dream, because it automatically spots potential formal errors in the data and speeds up the review process. This was confirmed by the results of the online survey about the usefulness and usability of the tools filled in by every participant at the end of the workshop. Next to the survey results on all three tools, the accuracy of the LISE tools will also be evaluated on the basis of the suggestions made by the tools that were accepted or rejected by the participants during the workshop.

A 2nd workshop with IATE users will be organized soon in Brussels.
